Overview
The Razer Kaira Pro for PlayStation is the latest premium, a high-end headset from the hardware behemoth for Sony’s consoles. The Kaira range has already been available for Xbox gamers for several months, but the wait for these Razer headsets to arrive on PS4 and PS5 has finally ended.
With Razer producing some of the best PS4 headset contenders – my go-to PS4 headset for years was a Razer Thresher – the gamers were eager to see how the serpent-logoed hardware company’s next premium PlayStation headset would stack up. In a nutshell? It’s one of the best PS5 headsets available, as well as one of the best gaming headsets overall.
The only exception to the sturdy construction is that the cups swing around freely when you pick up the headset. This has nothing to do with structural instability, but it is extremely inconvenient, especially when you have a controller in the other hand and are trying to put them back in a drawer neatly, place them on something, or simply take them off and put them on with one hand. A little more stiffness and stability would certainly even things out.
Where better to begin the performance breakdown than with the haptics? This is likely to be the main selling point for players looking for a high price headset that offers something unique, and it will be a great main selling point for the headphone in general. In short, it is a huge success – with one minor flaw.
The success is due to the fact that it provides incredible extra immersion levels into any games you play. The rumble of gunshots is especially interactive, and when the haptics are turned up to full power, it truly is something to behold.
The one minor flaw is that you can’t use the haptics while talking to your friends and teammates in co-op mode. Because the haptic technology hasn’t advanced to the point where it can distinguish between the game and chat audio, I was shaken not only by the booming sounds of my firearms in Far Cry 6, but also when my friends asked how my day was. Ideally, the next production of haptic in headsets will be able to distinguish between the game and chat audio, as only then will we truly be cooking on gas.
Should you buy the Razer Kaira Pro for PlayStation?
If you’ve been waiting for Razer’s entry into the high-price end of PS5 wireless headsets, the Kaira Pro for PlayStation is a knockout that will prove it was worth the wait. On PS5 and PS4, it will rattle your jungle, shake your tree, and take action, audio, and game immersion to new heights. If you don’t have a PS5, this is still a great option for PS4, as the haptics work brilliantly and make it feel like you’re going to get a new feature on a headphone while playing on a slightly older machine.
