There are three phones that are part of Oppo’s Reno 8 line. The Reno 8 Pro is the premium mid-range device, while the Reno 8 Lite is a more affordable model. The Reno 8 is somewhere between the two. It may not have the flagship camera tech that can be found in the Reno 8 Pro, but it does come with fast-charging technology, a sleek build as well as a good processor, considering its price tag.
Design and Build
There are two color options available, which are Shimmer Gold and Shimmer Black. The former has the Glow finish, which means the phone’s body reflects different colors under different angles and lighting conditions. It gives a high-end and stunning look, even with a plastic back because it feels quite robust.
The phone weights 179g and is 7.67mm thick, which makes it quite slim. There is no MicroSD card, but it supports USB-C charging and the port can also be used for headphones, as there is no other jack available.
Screen
The bright and lively screen of the Reno 8 has a 6.43 inches FHD AMOLED display that uses Gorilla Glass 5. The 90Hz refresh rate could be a bit disappointing, but the screen is quite adequate for performing day-to-day tasks. The fingerprint sensor is also under the display and is quite consistent.
Specs and Performance
There is only one configuration available in the Oppo Reno 8, which is 8GB RAM and storage of 256GB. The phone uses a MediaTekDimensity 1300 chipset, which delivers a responsive and quick performance, even when you are multitasking. But, playing something strenuous may cause the phone to heat up a bit and throttle the processor.
Battery Life and Charging
Even though the phone boasts a 4500mAh battery, it has a really long life. Most tests show that the Oppo Reno 8 can last for as long as 14 hours. The box comprises of an 80WSuperVooCfast charge and there is also a USB-C cable. The phone does not have support for wireless charging, but the fast charging is quite impressive. Considering the price, Oppo has done a good job at offering a long battery life and fast charging.
Cameras and Video
There is a triple rear camera to be found in the Oppo Reno 8, which has a 50MP lens, a 5MP wide-angle lens and also a 2MP macro lens. The camera delivers decent photos and works quite well under bright conditions, but dimmer environments may not have a lot of clarity. It is able to capture things in motion like fireworks and moving water.
Night mode may not be as sharp and too much zooming can also be a problem. As for the front, it has a 32MP selfie camera that gives good quality images.
Software
The Oppo Reno 8 comes with the company’s version of Android 12 called ColorOS 12.1 and it is very user-friendly. There might be some bloatware, but it is not overdone and it works quite smoothly for the most part.
Verdict
The Reno 8 is undoubtedly a good mid-range phone that has a user-friendly interface, capable performance, quick charging, excellent battery life and a stunning design.
