Motorola has decided to make another attempt at the modern foldable phone and this would make it the third-generation try. The predecessors of the Razr (2022) had some issues and the good news is that this one has fixed most of the complaints in order to help it compete with the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 4.
Design and Build
The first thing you will notice about the Razr 2022 is that the iconic chin has been completely removed from the device. This means that when you unfold the phone, the chin does not get in the way of the main screen, but it takes away the device’s personality and it looks like other foldables available in the market.
Nevertheless, the Razr is still desirable and slick. It weighs 200 grams and is quite wide, but folds down to 86.5 x 79.8 x 17mm. It also boasts a satin-textured and slightly glittery back that gives better grip and is not as slippery as previous models. It does not have aIP waterproof rating and there is just water-repellent coating.
Display and Audio
The display of the Motorola Razr (2022) is about two halves. The internal foldable display has gotten some major upgrades, but the 2.4 inch display on the exterior remains the same as the previous model. The foldable display is big at 6.7 inch and it has HDR10+ support and a 144Hz refresh rate. The AMOLED screen gives you a detailed and crisp display.
The external display is 2.7 inch HFD+ and remains good for opening apps, replying to incoming messages, controlling music and access the camera for selfies. You can have a high-quality audio experience with headphones, but the loudspeaker is a bit disappointing, especially when you put it on speakerphone.
Specs and Performance
Boasting the Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 chipset from Qualcomm, the Razr gives a speedy experience when combined with 8GB RAM. The refresh rate only adds to the smooth and buttery experience, as there are no lags.
It also gives great connectivity, as it has Bluetooth 5.2, Wi-Fi 6E, 5G and 256GB of storage. Some regions also have models that support 128 and 512GB storage.
Cameras
The Razr 2022 has a 50Mp rear-facing camera that has an upgraded sensor and it gives good pictures during day as well as night. There is also a 13Mp 120-degree ultrawide camera that also gives decent shots. There is also a selfie camera of 32Mp, which is internal, and it gives very detailed pictures and also works for video calling.
Battery
The battery in the Razr is 3,500mAh, but surprisingly lasts long thanks to the efficiency of the Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1. The battery life has gotten a boost, as compared to previous models, and it can last for at least 9 hours, or even longer, depending on what you use it for. It also includes 30W fast charging that allows the phone to charge 30% in 15 minutes.
The Verdict
The original foldable Razrhad depended a lot on nostalgia, but the 2022 model can compete with high-end alternatives, whether they are foldable, or non-foldable.
