The tech giant Microsoft has seemingly refused to let Skype die, though its Teams app has become its primary communication platform. The company still wants to roll out a significant update to Skype by bringing a completely new design. Microsoft’s announcement about the rollout of another new look for Skype was surprising news for users.
Â
The company gave the communication app a significant visual refresh a little over a year ago, introducing more colorful illustrations and themes. The new design for Skype also has some fresh features in the pipeline.
New Look for SkypeÂ
The new Skype version will be a fully revamped visual experience with an aesthetically stunning look.
It will have a more colorful header with various themes, which users can operate in dark and light modes. Users will experience the colorful impact throughout the communication app, including chats.Â
Colorful illustrations will be available in the setup process, making things livelier than ever.
New Contrast Accessibility Themes
Microsoft has also introduced new contrast accessibility themes for Skype, letting it work more useful for users with vision problems. The app has a refreshed calling experience on a smartphone to match its one-year-old desktop-based design.
Skype users will find a light theme for the call stage instead of a black background. Its video call layout will also comprise automatic adjustments for the number of people in a call.According to Microsoft, it has made it easier for users to access all call controls during a call.
Real-time TranslationÂ
Skype will have another significant update in form of real-time translation support. While the app is already capable of translating text and audio for users in a conversation box, Microsoft will add a new feature making the real-time audio translation sound like your voice.Â
Today Tab on Skype Home ScreenÂ
Microsoft is introducing a Today tab for Skype’s home screen. It will be a new way to find the latest news within the app, which users can also share with their contacts. Skype users also can choose their preferred topics to personalize their news feeds.
Microsoft Still Supports Skype Â
Microsoft hasn’t stopped supporting Skype, and redesigning the layout and introducing new features is a part of that support.Although the company hasn’t revealed when it will release the updated Skype version. It is not available to the public as yet.Â
Â
Microsoft Teams hit the market years ago with some of the biggest efforts by the company. The communication app has a chat feature with Microsoft Windows 11 for personal use.
On the other hand, Skype does not come preinstalled with the Operating System. So, it is weird to see Microsoft putting so much effort into bringing a new look to Skype. It becomes more surprising, considering Microsoft Teams has not received significant updates that often.Â
New Feature in Microsoft TeamsÂ
Microsoft Teams recently got the new Communities feature, which allows organizations and associations to manage events and communication among members. It is weird to see how Microsoft supports these two communication apps with different additions and features, especially when Teams is the end target of the company.Â
