If you are looking for gaming laptops, you are going to come across the Lenovo Legion series, as they have come close to rivaling the power that desktop rigs are capable of delivering.The Legion 7 Gen 7 is one of these laptops and the Lenovo Legion Slim 7 Gen 7 is its thinner and more affordable version. You will find that the 16-inch laptop has packed enough performance that can give you a solid gaming experience.
A slim package
Whether you consider aesthetics, or noise, you will find that most gaming laptops are very loud. Most high-performance gaming rigs have garish RGB accents and aggressive branding. However, Lenovo opted to take the opposite route when it designed the Legion Slim 7. The 16-inch gaming laptop weighs about 4.9 pounds and measures 0.67 x 14.1 x 10.2 inches, thereby undercutting a lot of others that have smaller displays.
It is the anodized aluminum chassis that’s responsible for its trim weight and is cool to touch. The surprising part is that it is not a fingerprint magnet, as you would expect it to be. While there are lighter and thinner laptops in the market, they are not likely to offer you the same gaming performance.
The Legion Slim 7’s base models come with a 1920 x 1,200 pixel screen and an AMD Ryzen 7 6800H processor. It also has a 165Hz refresh rate, 16 GB of memory, an 8GB Radeon RX 6800S mobile GPU and a 1TBNVMesolid-state drive.
Design and display
There is a huge array of vents on the underside of the Slim 7 Gen 7, which keep the system cool during gaming. Each end has two fans that function as air intakes and there is also ventilation along the back that function as an exhaust. The Lenovo keyboard is also very satisfying and the backlighting color can also be customized. The glass touchpad is also very responsive and smooth and the keyboard is touted as spill-resistant.
Other specs
Along the back of the laptop, you will find several ports, which include a power connector, an HDMI video output supporting 8K video at 60Hz and two USB 3.2 Gen 2 Type-A ports. There is also a webcam privacy slider, a 3.5mm headphone jack and an SD card slot on the right flank. As for the left, you will find two USB 3.2 Gen 2 Type-C ports with power delivery and DisplayPort.
Battery
Considering that the Lenovo Legion Slim 7 Gen 7 is a slimmer laptop, it means that the battery is going to be smaller than a standard laptop. Even then, you will be pleased to learn that it still gives you plenty of time. Moreover, the AC adapter that comes with it is not too heavy and bulky, so it is easy to carry around with the laptop in order to charge it when you need.
The Verdict
Gaming laptops promise higher performance every time, but that usually means a higher price, more mass and more power consumption. Therefore, it is great to see that the Lenovo Legion Slim 7 Gen 7 is quite capable and outruns most other laptops of the same size.
