The most powerful laptop of Apple Inc. has just received more oomph from within, as the latest generation of the MacBook Pro is now powered by the tech giant’s own M2 Pro and M2 Max chips. The new MacBook Pro is now available in two screen sizes, 14 and 16 inches. They have transformed from compact productivity devices into over-powered and outsized mobile workstations that are capable of delivering a better performance than you would get from desktop PCs.
Design and build
This year, Apple has decided to stick with the basics it introduced in 2021 and has not made any tweaks to the MacBook Pro’s design. The simple aluminum device is available in grey or silver and boasts a wide trackpad, along with a black keyboard. The MacBook Pro is 155cm thick, which makes it chunkier than the MacBook Air and thicker than high-end Windows laptops as well.
It weighs 1.6 kg, which means it is not too heavy and it only adds to the polished and premium feel of the device. There are a total of three ports, which support Thunderbolt 4/USB 4, charging and DisplayPort. There is also a dedicated MagSafe3 charging socket, an SDXC card slot, an HDMI port and a 3.5mm headphone jack.
Keyboard, trackpad and webcam
The MacBook Pro has a springy and light board that offers you comfortable and quick typing action, so there are no complaints in this regard. There is also a fingerprint sensor that has been built into the power button on the keyboard, which can be used for unlocking the laptop and approving App Store purchases using Touch ID.
There is a wide and generous trackpad. As for the webcam, the MacBook Pro comes with a 1080p camera, which gives you sharp pictures so you do not need a separate dedicated webcam.
Screen and speakers
The MacBook Pro has a notch in its display, which contains the webcam, but you will not notice it much. No matter which screen size you opt for, the resolution is excellent. It is 3024 x 1964 and 3456 x 2234 on the 14 and 16 inch devices, respectively. It also has a 120Hz refresh rate and peak brightness of 1600 nits. The screen offers bright colors and a rich contrast and looks great, no matter what you do on it.Audio is also impressive, as it has a total of six speakers that offer the best audio you could get on a laptop.
Specs and performance
The MacBook Pro 2023 models came with the M2 Pro and M2 Max chips that are the latest processors the company has developed in-house. They are offering unrivaled performance and power so far in the price. You actually have four options to choose from, as the M2 Pro is available in 10-core CPU and 16-core GPU, or a 12-core CPU with 19-core GPU. As for Max, it comes with 12-core CPU, but gives you the choice between 30 and 38-core GPU.
The Verdict
Even though the MacBook Pro 2023 is really a spec refresh of the device, the specs are downright amazing. The battery life lasts for more than a day, the chips are extremely powerful and there are no such complaints you will have.
