Microsoft has reportedly enabled its Phone Link app aiming to give users access to iMessage on Windows. It also made the updated app’s preview for Windows Insiders a few days ago.
Users can use the Microsoft Phone Link app to connect their gadgets to a Windows PC or laptop. The update will enable iPhone users to send and receive text messages through iMessage. They can also make and receive calls and check their smartphone’s notifications in Microsoft Windows 11.
LimitationsÂ
The software giant uses Bluetooth technology to connect Windows-based gadgets to iPhones, bringing messages and commands to your iMessage. It shows users will be able to send a text message to their contacts owing iPhones from their laptops or computer with some limitations.
The limitations of sending messages include the inability to send images through messages or take part in group conversations. The Phone Link app will show users’ iMessage chats in a basic form.
Mr. Yusuf Mehdi, the head of consumer marketing at Microsoft, says the company allows users to send conversations back and forth using Bluetooth. Apple, in turn, will send them as iMessage once it gets in the system.
Microsoft Phone Link app will also limit viewing the entire message history in chats. You can only see messages you have received or sent through Phone Link. The software giant or Phone Link does not use green or blue bubbles as the company cannot differentiate between standard text messages and those sent through iMessage.
While some analysts compare the Phone Link for iOS with Android, Microsoft will enable iPhone users to send messages or make calls for the first time.
While its Phone Link is a part of Windows 11, many compare it to alternative PC link apps from Dell, Intel, and vice versa.
A Dream to Come True
Mr. Mehdi says it is something Microsoft has been willing to do for a long time. The company has a good experience with Android, which made it feel like it should get something similar out for iOS.
Although the Phone Link app will not provide photo integration, Microsoft has already offered iCloud picture incorporation in the Windows 11 Photos app. The new update arrives as a significant one since it also comprises AI-powered Bing, enhanced touch optimizations, a screen recording feature, and lots more.
The software giant encourages iPhone users to check out the new update and test the Phone Link support for their iOS devices. It will be accessible for Windows Insiders in the Beta, Dev, and Release Preview channels. On the other hand, Microsoft has also planned to kick off the testing process with a small number of testers.
According to the blog posted by the Microsoft Windows team, the company shall expand the accessibility of the preview to a more significant number of Insiders over time.
Microsoft will also consider the feedback it receives with the first round of testing with Insiders to decide on further obtainability.
