Microsoft seems to be more interested in promoting AI-powered features through its products than anything else these days. It partnered with OpenAI and added ChatGPT to Bing and other products in the initial phase. Now the software giant has decided to enhance its suite of business apps with AI technologies, including the ChatGPT chatting app. It means users of MS Word, MS Excel, and MS PowerPoint will be able to enjoy AI-powered ChatGPT for a more enhanced experience.
The software technology company revealed that it would make the new AI features dubbed as Copilot technology available in some of Microsoft’s popular applications like Excel, Word, and PowerPoint. The Copilot tech is an AI software type known as a large language model (LLM). Over the years, researchers have worked hard to improve the LLMs’ capabilities to understand better and respond to users’ text.
The rise in Artificial Intelligence TechnologyÂ
The increase in Generative AI technologies has taken the tech industry by storm. Large Language Models, or LLMs, can best exemplify how systems can perform tasks based on written prompts and continue extended chats with people through chat interfaces.
The present era marks the next significant step for evaluating how humans interact with computing. It will essentially change how they work and discover new productivity growth trends. Satya Nadella, CEO at Microsoft, released a statement saying the company’s new Copilot for work will help us offer people more agency and make technology more accessible via natural language – the most global interface.
Microsoft pitches the Copilot features as it seems more powerful than embedded OpenAI ChatGPT into Microsoft 365. According to the software giant, the new Copilot added to MS Word will provide users with a first draft they can edit and iterate on to save hours in sourcing, writing, and editing time and energy.
On the other hand, Microsoft acknowledged the current LLM technology’s inability to produce accurate responses. The company recently debuted a new generative artificial intelligence-powered Bing chatbot. It exemplifies how this chatbot harvested responses comprising factual inaccuracies and infrequently unnerving dialogue. Microsoft professional showed some Copilot tool’s capabilities in an online presentation last Thursday.
AI Technology in MS Office ApplicationsÂ
The new update for the Microsoft 365 suite of Business apps can also be handy for family members. It will allow them to plan the celebration and make accompanying PPT slides using imagery spooled from their MS OneDrive storage account for exciting graphics. Likewise, business professionals can draft emails and send corporate proposals with the latest tools.
The modern work & business applications vice president at Microsoft, Jared Spataro, revealed how Copilot scans and takes actions based on MS Graph’s data. This data facilitates Copilot’s underlying LLM to generate better and more specific responses catering to an individual.
It is still vague when the new AI-powered copilot features will be available to the general public and what price. Microsoft only said the company plans to bring Copilot to its productivity apps, Outlook, Excel, Word, Power Platform, Viva, and Teams in the months ahead. The software giant has begun testing Copilot with a small number of customers to improve its models based on the feedback as it scales. Microsoft did not reveal the names of the customers.
A Microsoft representative said the company initiated the testing process of Copilot with twenty customers, comprising eight individuals in the Fortune 500. Copilot passed many privacy checks and has found a place to migrate if anyone has biases or misuses the software.
