OpenAI got famous with its viral AI-powered chatbot named ChatGPT. Today, the company makes it accessible through the web in specific cases. ChatGPT will have new plugins granting access to third-party databases, sources, and the world wide web. The latest launch aims to help extend the chatbot’s functionality.
ChatGPT is available in alpha to developers and users on the waitlist. The company will prioritize an insignificant number of subscribers and developers to sign in for its premium ChatGPT Plus program before it launches API and large-scale access.
The first-party web browsing plugin is the most intriguing one in OpenAI. It enables ChatGPT to get data from the internet to respond to the numerous queries posed to it. Earlier, ChatGPT had limited knowledge of events, dates, and individuals before September 2021.
The plugin uses the Bing search API to retrieve content from the internet. It exhibits any sites the ChatGPT plugin visited to craft an answer, referring to its sources in the bot’s responses.
OpenAI Chatbot with Web Access
Some tech researchers say accessing the ChatGPT chatbot is a risky decision. They cited OpenAI’s study, which found the same. WebGPT, the AI startup, built an experimental system in 2021. Some unreliable sources quoted it and incentivized to randomly pick data from websites they anticipated users would find convincing, including those without objectively strong sources.
Meta has a similar instance, where it disbanded the access to BlenderBot 3.0 to the internet. When it promoted the platform with specific writing, the bot had to quickly go off the rails and delve into offensive content and conspiracy theories.
OpenAI believes the live web may be less curated than a static training dataset and less filtered by implication. Google, Bing, and other search engine use their safety measures to lessen the likelihood of unreliable content rising to the top of the results.
While OpenAI launched plugins to ensure its connectivity to the web, they do not necessarily represent the entirety of the internet. Google’s algorithm chooses websites using modern web techs, such as mobile support, schema markup, and encryption. Several websites having low quality content usually get lost in the shuffling accordingly.
Undesirable BehaviorÂ
Google uses Search to prioritize its services. In 2020, Pinterest used its image search algorithm to add its stuff to Google image searches. OpenAI acknowledges undesirable behaviors that ChatGPT might do, including bypassing safety restrictions, emailing spam and fraudulent content, and increasing the competencies of bad actors to abuse or mislead others.
OpenAI says its external and internal red teams have informed several safeguards that the company implements to prevent such situations. It anticipates the upcoming days will reveal whether or not these safeguards are sufficient. The AI lobotomy and services unveiled a code interpreter for ChatGPT to offer the chatbot a working Python interpreter in a firewalled environment with disk space. It lets users upload files to an AI-powered chatbot and download the results. According to OpenAI, this code interpreter is handy for solving mathematical sums, converting files between different formats, and making data analysis & visualization.
