The last decade has not seen a major paradigm shift where gaming headphones are concerned, after low-latency, reliable wireless for audio was introduced. There have been a couple of advancements, such as surround sound audio quality, along with Bluetooth-enabled headphones. But, there has not been anything that could shakeup the entire headphone industry. Razer decided to change that with its latest Razer Kaira Pro for PlayStation, as the latest headset comes with intelligent haptics.
It is certainly a novel feature, but it remains to be seen if it will be the next big thing for the headphone industry.
Design
The Kaira Pro for PlayStation has a rather traditional headphone design, but it is still able to feel like something that has been designed for the PS5. Since it is officially licensed, it has the typical black and off-white color scheme applicable to PlayStation accessories. The headband also boasts the PlayStation insignia.
As it has been designed for PS5, the Kaira Pro comes with plug-and-play support and has a USB-C adapter. There is a 2.4GHz wireless connection, which works at a distance of 50 feet and decreases latency. You can also use the headset with the PS4 and PC, but the adapter will have to be converted to USB-A.
Moreover, the Kaira Pro also works with all Bluetooth-enabled devices like tablets and smartphones. While two devices can be simultaneously connected, you cannot listen to two audio streams at the same time.
The headset has a sturdy yet flexible frame and above each earcup, there are brushed metal accents. There are several notched adjustment settings that you can find at the base of the headband, which can be used for locking in the optimal height and you can also rotate the earcups. They come with a leatherette memory foam, which makes it comfortable to wear.
The left earcup has a volume control dial, power button, a physical mute switch and also a USB-C charging port. A single charge can last for 30 hours if the haptics are disabled.
Features
Similar to all other headsets for PS5, the Kaira Pro also supports Tempest 3D audio. There is a titanium audio driver of 50mm inside both earcups, which means you can enjoy great surround sound in all your music, games and movies. The addition of the HyperSensebuilt-in haptics technology is the biggest feature of these headsets.
As compared to traditional haptics, Razer’s technology can read audio signals intelligently for producing haptic feedback, which can work with any media source or game. The LofeltL5 haptic drivers in both the earcups are able to produce audio signals in stereo and this can be helpful in terms of positional awareness.
Software
The Razer audio app has to be downloaded for customizing the headset and it is available for both Android and iOS. It helps you check the overall battery life, customize and adjust the EQ settings and also make adjustments to the RBG lighting settings. The Do Not Disturb mode can also be activated.
The Verdict
The Kaira Pro headset can function as an excellent cross-platform device, as it is comfortable and it is easy to switch devices.
