The first premium smart TV from Sony that uses the QD-OLED panel is the Sony Bravia XR A95K and the Japanese giant has also added its Acoustic Surface Audio+ sound system to it. But, what else does the device offer for its lofty price tag? Let’s take a look.
Design and features
The Sony Bravia XR A95K has a stylish and relaxed appearance, with the panel wrap and bezels being wafer thin. There are two options offered by the screen-width stand; extending to the rear, or forward. The former is called the Front Position Style and the latter is known as the Back Position Style. Sony has used its checkerboard plastic back panel for the rear, which boasts four HDMI inputs.
Two of these inputs are 4K 120Hz compatible and can be used with the PlayStation 5, or Xbox. They also support ALLM and VRR and there is also eARC. You can also find dual satellite inputs, a CI card slot, two USB ports, a centre speaker connection, a digital optical audio output and an AV minijack. There is a microphone unit and a plug-in BraviaCam camera included in the box.
There are two remote controls given, one of which is a slim remote that boasts dedicated buttons for different streaming services, while the other is button-heavy. Google TV is the smart platform and comes with the usual recommendations and rails. The TV also comes with support for Apple Home Kit, Apple AirPlay and Chromecast.
Picture quality
Similar to its industrial design, the images that the AR95K produces are quite beguiling. The native 4K images are inherently sharp and there is an extensive range of picture presets provided by Sony, which include Cinema, Graphics, Standard, Vivid, Game, Photos and two Pro settings. An Auto Picture mode is also available. You will also find the TV quite cinematic, even if it is not too bright. The lack of a dedicated gaming interface and no support for HDR10+ or Dolby Vision IQ might be a downside for some.
Sound quality
The Acoustics Surface Audio system that Sony has introduced on previous OLED TVs has already proven itself. A pair of actuators are used for creating sound via vibration, as they are attached to the panel. As for the lower bass, there are two conventional subwoofers to be found. There are various sound mode settings given, which include Standard, Sports, Music, Cinema, Dolby audio and Dialogue. Acoustic Centre Synch is also an audio feature that has been added. Thanks to this feature, you will be able to use the sound system of the TV as a centre channel with a home theatre, or Sony soundbar.
The Verdict
The A95K can be found in two screen sizes, which are 55 inch and 65 inch, respectively. The QD-OLED screen is undoubtedly impressive, as the wafer-thin bezels and the Dual Stand that comes with it are a class of their own. Likewise, it also gives exceptional picture performance. As long as you can afford it, the TV is a good buy.
