Considering the price of the Sharp FN2 Series TV, you would not expect the finesse it delivers, which makes it a return to form for the brand. It is a high-value TV that offers you a combination of solid picture quality and an Android TV platform.
Design and features
The 55-inch model of the Sharp FN2 Series TV has a smart look, with the feet placed widely and bezels really thin. You also have the option of mounting the TV on the wall. It has a rather plastic build because of which it weighs about 15.6 kg. There are four HDMI ports on the back, one with a digital audio output, one with eARC, an AV minijack input, twin USB (V2.0) jacks and an Ethernet port. There is also an SD card slot, which is rather unusual.
There is a slim remote control available with the TV, which is quite easy to use. There are dedicated buttons available for services like YouTube, Prime Video, Netflix and Freeview Play and the navigational pad is quite prominent. The Android TV smart OS is the key feature of the FN2, which gives you an entire screen of curated content. Chromecast streaming is also built-in, along with voice interaction via Google Assistant.
Picture quality
There are highs and lows where image quality is concerned. Its default picture setting is Eco, but the Standard picture preset is a better choice. It gives the brightness a significant boost. Another appealing feature of the FN2 is the offer of Dolby Vision, which delivers excellent HDR performance. The picture level, even with SDR content, proves to be quite impressive. Native 4K and HD content is also very sharp.
But, an important thing to note is that the TV has a 60Hz panel and does not support 4K 120Hz gameplay, but there is a dedicated game mode included.
Sound quality
The audio offering of the FN2 is definitely above its price point. The TV is actually full-bodied, thanks to a stereo system that Harman Kardonhas designed. The volume is quite sufficient, as it is 12W in total. It can also bitstream Dolby Atmos from streaming services. While the built-in configuration is only for a stereo speaker, it does come with DTS Virtual:Xprocessing. The soundstage is subjectively enlarged due to this feature, which delivers a more cinematic experience. A low-frequency enhancer by the name of Truebassis also available, which has a bit of boom and comes off as heavy.
Availability
There are four screen sizes available in the Sharp FN2 Series TV. These are 43-inch, 50-inch, 55-inch and 65-inch models. The same models are available in the UK and the US, but there are slight tweaks.
The Verdict
The Sharp FN2 Series TV is quite impressive, especially when you are shopping for a 4Kflatscreen that is budget friendly. You can get a razor-sharp image and the picture level is also higher than average. The HDR brightness may be a tad limited, but it manages to look cinematic.
