Apple launched a new app to accommodate classical music lovers in March this year. Apple Music Classical is globally available for Apple Music subscribers for free download. Markets like Taiwan, Turkey, Japan, China, Russia, and South Korea will not have this music service for now, though Apple plans to roll it out in these countries sometime in the future.
The iPhone maker has now rolled out Apple Music Classical for Android, allowing you to get it from the Google Play Store with Apple One or Apple Music subscription. Apple had unveiled plans to release a classical music service in the future after it acquired Primephonic in 2021. The company released Apple Music Classical on iPhone in March 2023. It is worth noting that the app for Android arrives before the release of such an app for iPad and Mac.
The new music app has over five million tracks and 50 million plus data points and attributes of 20,000 composers. Apple Music subscribers will also find over 350,000 movements and more than 115,000 exclusive musical works on the app. You can use the app’s search engine to find your desired classical musical tracks across the categories with the help of the available data.
According to Apple, classical music has numerous tracks and movements, whereas hundreds of famous recordings with various orchestras, soloists, and conductors. Since most music composers have specific catalog classifications, tech companies might need to consider these complexities in building classical music search engines differently.
The Music Classic App – Sections
The new Classical Music app lets users use keyword combinations, including composer, artist, conductor, and work title, to search for their desired musical tracks. They can also see music work recordings and Editor’s Choice pieces by looking up a music piece on the Classical Music App.
Apple says its team created more than 700 playlists aiming to guide music lovers via eight centuries of music. The Music Classical’s editors will add more tracks to the app over time. For instance, The Classical audio guides are one of the initial collections, combining selected works and commentary to introduce classical terminology, significant periods, instruments, and composers for users starting their classical music-related discovery.
The classical music app allows already knowledgeable users to go behind the scenes of chosen recordings and benefit from classical artists’ track-by-track voice commentary. Hidden Gems is another section that highlights a portion of lesser-known music works. The app has Composer Undiscovered tracks designed to unveil a fresh perspective to famous music makers and artists.
According to the tech giant, the app will have some music work from Apple-partnered classical music institutions for new and unique recordings and content. It will include Carnegie Hall, the Metropolitan Opera, the Chicago Symphony Orchestra, and Opera National de Paris. The Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra, the Vienna Philharmonic, and the London Symphony Orchestra are also part of the music work included in the app.
The Launch of the Apple Music Classical
Apple began the global launch by hosting live performances of its Apple Store partners worldwide. It started as a part of Apple’s Programming series earlier in March this year. Apple classical music lovers can browse playlists on the discovery side. They can use filters, such as genres, orchestras, choirs, composers, and ensembles, in the Catalog tab and curated works in the Playlists tab.
You can also browse numerous music tools under the Instruments tab. The Music Classical App offers various services based on Primephonic, a company acquired by Apple in 2021. It also comprises composer bios, editorial-deep dives, and unique musical albums on specific key works.
