Anyone who is a fan of horror games would certainly be interested in the Greyhill Incident because the game claims to belong to the horror genre. But, it proves to be so barebones and lifeless that it makes the story about an alien invasion seem like visit from your in-laws. The voice and story performance are downright bad and the stealth gameplay leaves a lot to be desired. The environments are bland and there are some weird bugs that only make matters worse.
The story
As mentioned above, Greyhill Incident has opted for the classic alien invasion story, but it does a very poor job of it. You take on the role of the government-hating and conspiratorial boots of a single father named Ryan. He is always angry and wielding a baseball bat. The protagonist is emotionally unstable and immediately takes action when his rural town is invaded by small gray aliens and they start abducting the people.
But, how does he do so? His neighbors are very paranoid and they have locked themselves inside safes and Ryan goes around helping them out of them. He also collects tin foil for the purpose of protection. The story then becomes complete and utter nonsense because you have to complete a bunch of silly and unbroken events that come with very vague objectives.
You are not given directions of any kind and there is nothing funny or surprising involved. They are essentially chores and it takes just three hours for the drudgery to come to an end.
The dialogue
One of the worst things about Greyhill Incident is the dialogue, as you are unlikely to come across something so horrible. It feels as if an AI chat bot wrote and performed the said dialogue and not a good one at that. The delivery is also stilted and it sounds downright bizarre. As a matter of fact, the dialogue and the vibe are so horrible at times that it feels almost deliberate.
Nonetheless, the awful voice acting and the bad jokes do not make things enjoyable because the gameplay is so terrible. In addition, most of the jokes end up falling flat, but sometimes there are things that will shock you enough to make you laugh. These are the only best moments that you will come across in Greyhill Incident.
The problems
The real issue of Greyhill Incident is that it just asks you to move around slowly and hide from the gray aliens, who are mostly unintimidating, for the entire duration. It is a stealth game that is trying to make the stealth mechanics boring and not fun at all. The design decisions are some major failures, particularly the pace at which you move.
The tasks you do are drawn out because of the extremely slow pace. You have to crouch to ensure you do not grab the attention of the aliens. There are no actual stealth mechanics that can help you from not being killed. You can only hide behind the cars, or the trash cans that you find and that is all. There are no ways for you to distract the enemy. As for the aliens, they are also very uninteresting and do not have a very threatening nature.
The Verdict
The name Greyhill Incident seems to be a suitable one for a horror game that is plain awful and it ends up mangling most of the things it tries to accomplish.
