When Honor was a subsidiary of Huawei, it had specialized in making phones with high-end features, but without the hefty price tag to go with it. After becoming independent, it decided to carve out its own niche with phones like Magic Vs foldable, but with Honor 90, the company has gone back to what it does best. The phone comes with a dazzling display, slender build and an Instagram-worthy camera without the price tag, the Honor 90 sounds like the ultimate package.
Design and build
Even though it has a large display, the Honor 90 remains sleek and slim. The phone can be held comfortably because of its curved edges. But, the phone finishing is textured plastic and that makes it feel cheap. Even though it adds some grip to the phone, it does not look good at all. This finish is only an issue in the Diamond Silver model, as the texture is ‘frosted’ in Peacock Blue and Emerald Green, while the Midnight Black one comes with a ‘glossy’ finish.
Screen and speakers
The main reason to purchase the Honor 90 is its display. The AMOLED panel is large and curves on all four sides and it has a 120Hz refresh rate. This brings it very close to flagship standards, considering that its resolution is 2644 x 1200. It is crisp and has an impressive brightness. Most importantly, Honor has given priority to eye health with its display.
This is because it comes with blue light output in the evening, as per industry standards and it has also used dynamic dimming as well as other technology that can improve your sleep and reduce eye strain. As far as audio is concerned, you will not find a headphone jack, but the dual speakers are standard.
Specs and performance
The Snapdragon 7 Gen 1 powers the Honor 90, which is a mid-tier processor from Qualcomm and is in accordance with Honor’s price tag. It comes with 8GB of RAM and storage of 256GB and this can be increased to 12GB of RAM and storage of 512GB, depending on the market. As far as networking is concerned, it comes with the usual 5G support and the latest versions of NFC, Wi-Fi and Bluetooth standards.
Cameras
There is a triple rear camera to be found on the Honor 90, but you can ignore the 2Mp depth sensor and use the ultrawide and main lenses for the most part. With a 200Mp sensor, the latter is the star of the show and it might not be the fastest, but it is certainly large and this allows it to capture maximum light. You can take excellent photos, particularly during the day and the detail is incredible. While the 12Mp does not sound very impressive, it is pretty good, as long as the lighting is good. As for the front, there is a selfie camera of 50Mp and the lens is actually better than expectations.
The Verdict
The Honor 90 proves to be a capable phone for its price range, especially when you want an excellent display.
