The Nord 3 is the latest phone in the mid-range phone series by OnePlus. Similar to other Nord entries, it will not be launched in the US and surprisingly not in the UK, but will be available in Europe and OnePlus has managed to get a lot of things right in this particular iteration.
Luxurious build
The Nord 3 comes in an elegant design, as it is made of luxurious materials, has a premium feel and the shape is not only practical, but also stylish. The phone is certainly not small, as it boasts a screen of 6.74-inch, but the flat sides and the thin screen edges ensure that it is not too wide. Rather than Gorilla Glass, the screen is covered with Dragontail Glass from AGC. It is difficult to determine durability, but it should be effective enough against a drop.
The back glass is Gorilla Glass 5 and curves towards the edges, while the front one has a teardrop shape. You can get the Nord 3 in a green glossy finish, or a mattgrey-black back. The volume and power button are on the opposite sides and the trademark slider from OnePlus that can be used for switching the phone to do not disturb or silent mode is on the top right side.
High performance
The MediatekDimensity9000 chipset has been used in the Nord 3 and it delivers high performance that is the same as some of the top phones of the previous year. It comes with 16GB of RAM, so you will not experience any lags or choppiness. This is undoubtedly great for a mid-range device. As it comes with good cooling and a relatively high graphics performance, the Nord 3 is also a suitable phone for gaming. Its 1080p screen can run most demanding Android games smoothly.
Excellent screen and speakers
The screen resolution of the Nord 3 is a bit odd at 1,240 x 2,772, but its refresh rate goes as high as 120Hz. It is an AMOLED screen that boasts great high peak brightness and color. Since it supports HDR10+, you can easily watch movies on Netflix and Prime Video.
The built-in stereo speakers are capable of delivering decent sound. Sure, the bass is not as powerful, but the speakers do a good job for the most part. Dolby Atmos support is also available.
Three cameras
There are two round camera pucks on the Nord 3’s rear and they comprise of three cameras. The upper one has a 50Mp IMX890 sensor that comes with optical image stabilization, while the other one has a 2Mp macro camera and an 8Mp ultrawidethat has fixed focus. There are white circles next to them, but only one is the LED flash.
The photos are detailed and sharp and the colors are all natural, even if the dynamics are not exactly reliable. The cameras are also great at night photography, a fact that OnePlus has emphasized on. The Nord 3 also functions as a video camera and gives great results.
The Verdict
OnePlus has managed to build onto the success of the previous Nord phones with the Nord 3 and it is able to deliver a greater sense of luxury, but at a higher price.
