The 15inch MacBook Air is actually the MacBook Air, only bigger in size. When it comes to the innards, Apple has not made any such changes and has just expanded the 13-inch model for adding a bigger screen and battery capacity. Of course this is nothing to complain about because the model is undoubtedly a winner.
Design and build
The 15-inch MacBook Air has the same appearance as the 13-inch model, only bigger. Made from 100% recycled aluminum, it comes in the same set of colors, which are Midnight, Space Grey, Starlight (gold) and Silver. The device is light and thin and is just 0.02cm thicker than the 13-inch model at 1.15cm. The weight is a bit more at 1.51kg, but it is light enough for you to carry it around.
You can see Apple’s usual polish everywhere, from the underside of the laptop to its pristine, wobble-free hinge. But, there are no additional ports and that is a bit disappointing because there is some extra chassis available. It comes with the usual 3.5mm headphone jack, a pair of Thunderbolt 3/USB 4 ports and a MagSafe 3 charging port.
Screen and speakers
The primary reason for anyone to choose the MacBook Air 15-inch model is its larger screen. The additional real estate is great for productivity and there is plenty of space for split-screening and multitasking. The display also has good color accuracy and the crisp resolution of 2880 x 1864 is also helpful. But, there are also downsides.
Apple has continued with IPS tech for the display, so the results are not the same as the OLED models. Likewise, you will also see some issues in brightness. There is also a large notch that has been cut into the display and it is considered an unsightly addition that can be very distracting. There is no touch support either and this is an issue for those switching from a modern Windows laptop.
As far as audio is concerned, there is a 3.5mm headphone jack and six speakers that support Dolby Atmos and Spatial Audio. The sound quality is quite impressive for a laptop.
Specs and performance
Apple has used its own M2 for the MacBook Air 15-inch model and there are two versions available, one with extra GPU cores. While the chip is not as powerful as the M2 Max or M2 Pro chips, it is still decent. Office workers and students will have no issues with the laptop, but those who use it for 8K video editing or creating 3D assets will tap its limit quickly.
The default RAM is 8GB, but you can up it to as much as 24GB. As far as storage is concerned, the options go from 256GB to 2TB. Connectivity options include Bluetooth 5.2 and Wi-Fi 6.
The Verdict
You will not find much to fault in the MacBook Air 15-inch model because it lives up to its promises. The spacious body and larger display, combined with the extraordinary battery is worth the price.
