These days, Chromebooks are available in almost every variety, from luxurious convertibles to gaming beasts. While they are not new, the convertible Chromebooks have managed to stand out and the same applies to Asus Chromebook CM34 Flip. It is a great device for an everyday user and checks multiple boxes when it comes to functionalities and features.
Design and build
Instead of the standard color scheme, the Asus Chromebook CM34 boasts is blue, which has a touch of subtlety that gives it an air of sophistication. It is not exactly ugly, but it does seem boring. Since most laptops are grey, this pop of color is a nice touch, even if it is a bit understated. Even for a convertible laptop, the device is a bit heavy at 1.81kg, but it is also durable. It has a tight and nice hinge that holds the screen when you flip it 360 degrees.
Display and audio
The ultra-slim bezels and the 16:10 aspect ratio of the display are quite appealing because it means you get a good screen size. It is not only great for scrolling, but also for watching YouTube Videos, Netflix and so on. The display comes with a 60Hz refresh rate and a resolution of 1920×1080, which is both sharp and vibrant. It works great for office-related tasks and general purposes. The brightness indoors is perfect, but not outdoors.
This is not surprising for a touchscreen laptop. It has been equipped with Harman Kardon-certified speakers and they produce a very clear sound. The vocals sound full and crisp, so you will not have any complaints in terms of sound.
Webcam and ports
Instead of the 720p webcam, the CM34 Flip comes with an 1080p webcam and it is definitely a quality one. The colors are warm and rich and gives clear background details. There is also a nice array of ports to be found. You will find one USB 3.2 Gen 2 Type-A, two USB 3.2 Gen 2 Type-C, one HDMI 2.1, one microSD card reader, one audio jack and one Kensington lock slot.
Performance
Asus has powered this device with the AMD Ryzen 3 7320C CPU and it is more than capable of handling multiple tasks and apps simultaneously. But, you should bear in mind that it is not the strongest one out there. It is capable of dealing with everyday tasks and it will function normally, unless you deliberately overwhelm it.
Battery life
In this particular area, the Asus Chromebook CM34 Flip proves to be outstanding because it can last for about 19 hours on just one charge. The 60Wh battery is on the larger side due to which it is able to last for such a long time. If you are looking for a long-lasting machine, you do not have to look further than this one.
The Verdict
With its amazing battery life, 2-in-1 form factor and vibrant touchscreen, the Asus Chromebook CM34 Flip definitely has a lot to offer at a price tag of just $599.
