The latest Samsung event saw the Galaxy Z Fold 5 and Galaxy Z Flip 5 phones get the most attention, but the company also launched a new family of tablets to add to the Galaxy Tab S series. There are three tablets that have been introduced, with the main difference being their size. Otherwise, they are all lavish and come with elite features that can help them challenge the latest iPad models.
The Galaxy Tab S9 Plus boasts a 12.4-inch screen, making it a mid-range model and is available in various storage configurations. The cheapest model of this tablet comes with storage of 256GB and 12GB RAM. You can also get it with storage of 512GB. 5G and Wi-Fi models are available for both.
Performance
Samsung has opted to use the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 processor for the Galaxy Tab S9 Plus, which it also uses in its Galaxy S23 phones. This makes it the fastest Android tablet around and when you add in the fast memory and storage, you will find that it functions very smoothly no matter what you throw at it. The system comes with good multi-tasking capabilities, so you can easily run dynamic and media-heavy websites and apps running simultaneously without any lags.
Screen and speakers
The screen that Samsung has chosen for the Galaxy Tab S9 Plus is downright phenomenal. The 12.4-inch screen is dazzling, as the Dynamic AMOLED 2X comes with a resolution of 2800×1752 and a refresh rate of 120Hz. The OLED technology means that you can enjoy beautiful brightness and high color accuracy and everything you see on it is immersive, detailed and intense. It also comes with support for HDR10+ and it activates automatically.
As far as speakers are concerned, Samsung has opted to use four speakers from AKG that are omnidirectional and they deliver a detailed and rich sound, making them suitable for both vertical and horizontal positions. The tablet also comes with Dolby Atmos support and there is actually a special Atmos mode given for playing games, which has great sound.
Design and build
Gorilla Glass has been used to cover the screen, but Samsung does not disclose what kind it is. The tablet is also waterproof, which is a change from the previous generation. The Galaxy Tab S9 Plus is thin at just 5.7mm and solid aluminum has been used for building it. The buttons are clear and it comes with a sim card slot on one side. The construction is rigid and the short side has the holes for the speaker. As for colors, you can find it in graphite and in beige.
Samsung has put more focus on elegant design instead of comfort. But, the beauty of the tablet is that with the right accessories, you can make it into a fully functional laptop. They have also refined multitasking support, as you can now open three apps in split windows. The S Pen stylus accompanying the tablet is also top-notch and has also been improved.
The Verdict
There is no doubt that the Samsung Galaxy Tab S9 Plus is brighter, faster, safer and smarter, but it is also quite expensive.
