Anyone would be intrigued with the Samsung Odyssey OLED G9, as it is a 49-inch curved widescreen monitor that comes with a 32:9 aspect ratio. The slightly curved OLED panel is colorful and has a high frame rate, high resolution and has a speedy response time that can deliver a brilliant gaming experience.
Design
The black rectangular screen of the Odyssey OLED G9 has a reflection-minimizing surface and its matte-grey metal bezel is about a millimeter thick. The back of the display has a nice curved surface and the area where the back and neck meet is illuminated by RGB lighting.
Performance and screen
With a refresh rate of 240Hz, a response time of 0.3 millisecond and the RTX 4070 graphics card, the Odyssey OLED G9 delivers excellent gaming performance. The action on the screen remains top-notch, no matter how intensive the game you are playing is. Some might say that there is not a favorable impact on the gameplay due to the widescreen, but once you get used to it, you will actually see an improvement in your peripheral vision as well as immersion.
Since it uses the QD-OLED technology that Samsung uses in its OLED-based TVs, the picture looks really good. You can see this in the intensity and color gamut. Similarly, the HDR support is the same as the TVs from Samsung, which means there is HDR10, HDR10+ as well as the gaming version. But, you do not get any Dolby Vision support. Everything is beautiful and smooth on the screen, thanks to Adaptive Sync, along with FreeSync Premium Pro.
The resolution is 5120 x 1440 and this also contributes to the overall screen quality. The big screen is not just helpful for gaming, but also for other tasks like video editing.
Other features
In terms of connectivity, you will find that the Samsung Odyssey OLED G9 comes with two HDMI and one DisplayPort. One of the HDMI inputs is normal sized, while the other is a micro-sized one. You will also find three USB-C ports. There are built-in speakers in the screen, but the sound does not match the picture experience. No analogue headphone jack is provided, so you have to use Bluetooth or a USB plug.
There is support for Bluetooth 5.3 and Wi-Fi 5 connectivity. It is a smart screen that comes with the Tizen OS software and Arm-based processor that are used in the company’s smart TVs. There are downloadable and pre-installed apps for all popular and major streaming services, along with a number of other information, media and entertainment apps.
You will also find a web browser, a control hub for your smart gadgets and plenty more. The image upscaling and enhancement features are the same as a regular TV. There is a small remote provided that comes with a trackpad, volume control and shortcuts.
The Verdict
There is no doubt that the Odyssey OLED G9 is impressive, with its curved and powerful widescreen display, great dynamics, intense colors and the fast response and frequency.
