While iPhone owners can simply get an Apple Watch when they want a smartwatch, Android users have a number of options. One of the best options in this case is the Samsung Galaxy Watch 6, as it has managed to surpass Google’s own offerings. It has excellent hardware and good design, not to mention an impressive battery.
Design and build
The Watch 6 Classic brings back the physical rotating bezel that Samsung had ditched last year and it is an excellent feature. This is because the WearOSthat Samsung has introduced is based around left to right scrolling. It is available in 47mm and 43mm models. The stainless steel certainly looks good and Samsung has included a nice faux leather strap in the box.
Display and audio
The 47mm model of the Galaxy Watch 6 has a 1.5-inch AMOLED display and there is no blank space around the edges. The bright and sharp colors are certainly attractive and the screen is a full-touch screen which means it can be navigated with the finger, or the physical bezel can also be used. The circular look is also appealing because even though it is a smartwatch, it can also pass off as a conventional watch. There is also a speaker built into the watch that can be used for taking calls.
Specs and performance
The Watch 6 Classic boasts 2GB RAM and the ExynosW930 chipset, but it can still lag sometimes. The processor speed is slightly higher, so the watch generally feels fluid and responsive. The watch also comes with 16GB storage and the heart rate sensor works continuously.
Fitness and tracking
The Galaxy Watch 6 Classic offers impressive fitness tracking features. The auto-tracking automatically starts when you walk briskly for ten minutes. The built-in GPS is also good for run tracking and it displays useful data during a workout, which includes duration, time, heart rate and pace. There is a long list of sports that you can track with the watch, which include hiking, cycling and open water swimming.
It also enables you to set personalized heart rate zones and monitor them when you are working out, which is a first for any Galaxy Watch. As far as connectivity is concerned, you can use Bluetooth 5.3, or Wi-Fi. There is NFC support also available. The watch is also good for sleep tracking through Samsung Health.
Software
The WearOS 4 software from Google has been used in the Watch 6 series and while it may not be as polished as Apple Watch’s OS, it comes close. The tile menu can be customized to keep the things you use frequently at the front. While third-party apps have been added, the choices are still on the lower side. The watch will work with any Android device running Android 10 or later, but it is not compatible with iPhones.
The Verdict
The Galaxy Watch 6 Classic has proven to be the best smartwatch for Android devices, as it is much better than the Google Pixel Watch and regular Watch 6. This is because of its premium design, strong battery and the robust set of health and smart features.
