While not many mobiles are rolled out by Sony every year, the company sticks to three. Xperia 1 is the top model, then the Xperia V and the mid-range Xperia10. This year’s version comes with a long narrow OLED screen and a reasonable price tag. But, is it worth the money?
Design and build
The unusually slim design of the Xperia 10 V makes it easy for you to hold the phone. The screen is about 6.1-inch long and has an aspect ratio of 21:9 and there are extra millimeters below and above the screen for accommodating the speakers, selfie camera and other electronics. It has a short width and this is beneficial because it means that you can use a single thumb to reach the width of the phone. The Android interface used by Sony has also been adapted to make one-handed navigation easy.
Managing the split screen is also very smooth, thanks to the interface and Sony has also incorporated a number of smart features for optimizing energy consumption. The back is flat, but the frame is slightly curved and they are made of matt plastic, which feels stable and durable and can be gripped comfortably. Gorilla Glass Victus has been used for the front and it is flat. The top also has the analogue headphone jack, along with the slot for SD cards and SIM that you can pull out with your fingernail. While there is no dual SIM slot, you can use an ESIM.
Screen and audio
The 6.1-inch OLED screen delivers intense and rich colors and excellent contrast. There is also HDR10 support available, so you will not have any complaints about the screen or its performance. The refresh rate is 60Hz and this is a bit disappointing because most mid-range devices are now offering at least 90Hz.
Since it is Sony, you can rest assured that there will be no issues with the sound. As long as you plug in headphones, you will have no complaints. The built-in speakers are nothing special, but stereo dispersion does impress.
Performance and battery life
The Xperia 10 V comes with the Snapdragon 695 that had been introduced back in 2021, so it is capable of multitasking, but its performance is not exactly noteworthy. Most processor-intensive tasks like camera operations test the phone’s performance.
In the battery department, the phone does seem to excel. It boasts power-efficient hardware and Sony has added a 5,000mAh battery that makes it one of the best devices in the market. The battery can easily last a full day, or even longer, depending on what you are using it for. Even with intensive tasks, it does not give you a lot of complaints. But, there is no charger included in the box and this might be disappointing.
The Verdict
When it comes to a mid-range device, the Xperia 10 V comes close to the mark because it has a good design, decent interface and impressive battery, but considering the price tag, it is not that good of a deal because of performance issues and some other problems.
