The Vero series from Acer utilizes consumer recycled plastics more than any other laptops that exist in the market. From the chassis to the keyboard and even the packaging is aimed at reducing waste and ensuring energy savings. The same applies to the Acer Aspire Vero 15, but is this a good device?
Design and build
A plastic-forward design has been used for the Aspire Vero 15, which means that it does not use any metals and you are not going to find any luxury touches. Nonetheless, plastic is not just highly recyclable, but also a versatile material. The 15.6-inch dimpled and chunky aesthetic of the Vero is quite different from the aluminum that you see in other machines.
The design does not have any stickers or paint and you will only find logos and molding. Last year’s size had been smaller at 14-inch, so the bigger one does feel a bit better.
Connectivity
One of the best things about laptops belonging to the Aspire Vero family is that they come with a plentiful and flexible port selection. There are 2 USB-A ports, 2 Thunderbolt 4 USB-C ports, a 3.5mm headset jack and a full-size HDMI port.
It also offers great wireless connectivity, as you have both Bluetooth 5.1 and Wi-Fi 6E. While there could be room for wired Ethernet, an adapter would be needed if you want to link to a network directly.
Display, speakers and webcam
You get a solid display on the Aspire Vero 15, as it is 15.6-inch and comes with Full HD resolution. The viewing angles and colors are very nice and it gives you your money’s worth. The webcam is quite surprising, as it offers a 1440p resolution. This is higher than some other mid-range laptops. It has accurate colors and gives good performance in decent light.
The speakers is where the Aspire Vero is a bit weak because they sound tinny and lack bass or volume. There are also down firing, so the sound can be muffled when you put the laptop on a hard surface. It is best to use headphones.
Performance
Under the hood, the Aspire Vero has more than you would expect from it. The Intel Core i7-1355U process boasts a total of 10 cores, which allows you to do most of the tasks easily. Whether you are using it for office work, video conferencing, or web browsing, it works quite well.
Battery life
Given that the laptop is 15.6-inches, there is plenty of space for adding a large battery. The Aspire Vero comes with 56Wh battery in its plastic frame, which allows it to last for more than 13 hours. This is undoubtedly an excellent battery life and it certainly adds to the overall value of the laptop.
The Verdict
Similar to last year’s model, the Aspire Vero 2023 shows that it is possible to innovate without making it seem like a science experiment. Since it is made of plastic, there is no machine that seems to be like this one and it does offer value for money.
