Apple iPhone 15 – Review

In terms of looks, it is difficult to get excited about the iPhone 15 series reveal because it looks remarkably similar to the previous models. But, there are other changes that the company has made, with the most prominent one being the addition of USB-C, which have made the series one of the best in years.

Design

If you do not look too closely, the iPhone 15 series can be mistaken for any of its predecessors because there is no such radical change in design. Plus, when you put on a case, it covers the minor differences. The titanium chassis on the new iPhone 15 Pro and Pro Max is downright gorgeous and the sides and the back can resist fingerprints much better than their predecessors. The phones feel good in your hand, as they are smooth, but not slippery.

Apple did not shrink the size of the screens of the phones, but managed to reduce their weight and size. The reductions are minor, but they still make a difference. There is a slight difference in the camera module and the size reduction means you will need new cases. Both the 15 Pro and Pro Max have 120Hz, P3 wide color support, Apple’s True Tone and HDR and haptic touch. The brightness has been improved from last year’s models.

One change in design is the replacement of the switch on the side used for turning your phone on silent with the Action Button. This button can do what the previous switch did, along with a number of alternate tasks like turning on the flashlight, opening the camera, recording a memo, or a shortcut of your choosing.

Features

The Dynamic Island introduced last year has returned, along with the always-on display. The storage capacity has also been increased and iCloud service has also been expanded to 12TB. But, the most important feature on the new iPhones is the addition of the USB-C. This reduces the number of cables you need to have. But, fast charging is not supported as yet. Apple has also introduced MagSafe once more for wireless charging.

Wi-Fi 6E support is also offered in both the iPhone 15 and 15 Pro, along with a second-generation Ultra Wideband Chip. The phones also come with voice-isolation capabilities for calls, which makes it easier for people to hear you even if you are in a crowd. This is a good feature to have.

Cameras

The iPhone 15 Pro Max has the best camera that Apple is offering and this is due to the level of optical telephoto zoom. The sensor used behind the lens has remained unchanged, but the one in front has been changed to 120mm ‘tetraprism’ lens that doubles the optical zoom you get in the iPhone 14 Pro and 15 Pro.

Both phones have improved main cameras, as they now shoot 24 megapixel photos rather than 12. In addition, Portrait Mode is now engaged on the phone by default. A number of professional-level video capabilities have also been added.
