If you are looking for a laptop that works and offers everything at a reasonable price, one of the options in the market is the Asus Vivobook 15. Depending on what you want to do, the laptop is capable of getting the job done.
Design and Build
The plastic silver chassis that Asus has used is very familiar, as the company has released a number of laptops over the years that have a similar look. The design of the Vivobook 15 is standard, nothing innovative or spectacular and the only notable feature is the fold-flat hinge. The underside of the laptop is matte gray, whereas the top has a satin finish.
According to Asus, the plastic boasts military-grade durability. In terms of connectivity, the Vivobook 15 comes with three USB-A ports, one of which is USB2 and the two are USB3. One USB-C port is also given, along with a 3.5mm audio jack and a full-size HDMI. Since you cannot charge with the USB-C port, there is a classic DC power port also given.
Display and Audio
There is a 15.6-inch, 1080p LED-backlit LCD screen that boasts a refresh rate of 60Hz. As compared to OLED, the screen cannot offer you the same level of brightness and results, but it comes with an anti-glare coating. This allows you to see the screen easily, even when there is no light. The side bezels are slim and make the display look good, but the top bezel is thicker for accommodating the webcam.
There are small, downward-firing speakers used in the Vivobook 15 and it does not have any visible grille on the top. Instead of Harmon Kardon, the speakers are provided by SonicMaster. They work well enough for video calls and notifications, but it is best to use headphones for music and other tasks.
Specs and Performance
Intel’s 12th-gen range’s mid-range processor is the Core i5 used in the Vivobook 15, but the i5-1235U belongs to the low-power U series. The chip was introduced in 2022 and is a hybrid, which means it has both efficiency and performance cores. Combined with the 16GB of RAM, the processor has enough power for running browsers and office applications easily.
While the laptop has not been designed for intense gaming, the Core i5 is popular amongst gamers and the Intel Iris Xeworks well with it. The chip can also be used for 1080p video editing and image editing, as long as you are not too heavy handed in terms of effects.
Battery Life
The battery life of the Vivobook 15 is nothing special, as the laptop manages to last for six hours, which means it needs to be charged at least once a day when you use it regularly. The charging speed with the 45W power adapter is not too slow and you can easily carry it around.
The Verdict
Taking its price into account, the Vivobook 15 proves to be a decent laptop, but it does not offer anything out of the ordinary.
