There are two watch sizes released as part of Huawei’s Watch GT line. One is 46mm that has been designed for larger wrists, while smaller wearers have the option of 41mm. In both watches, style is the focus, as they come with classic round watch faces and a number of straps.
Design and Build
The first thing you will notice about the Huawei Watch GT 4 is that it is not another Apple Watch clone. It boasts a ‘floating’ round face, which you could easily think of as a standard premium watch. The 41mm size seems to be more feminine and delicate, while the larger size has a masculine and rugged look.
Three strap options are available, which are white leather, silver stainless steel and light gold Milanese. The watch weighs just 37g without the strap, which means you can easily wear it for longer periods without it feeling uncomfortable. 5ATM water resistance is also included.
Screen and Audio
The 41mm version has a 1.32-inch AMOLED display, which is only 0.1-inch smaller than the big one and it is still bold and bright. A 466 x 466 resolution is offered and the screen lights up when you raise the wrist. Similar to other Huawei devices, it is responsive and swift when it comes to taps and swipes.
The Watch GT 4 comes with both speaker and microphone, which means you can use it for playing music and also for making calls. The microphone is clear and nice. You can also activate a voice coach on the watch during runs.
Software and Features
The latest version of Huawei’s own software i.e. Harmony OS can be found on the Watch GT 4. The app can be downloaded on both Android and iOS smartphones, but you will have to use Huawei’s website to do so instead of the Apple App Store or Google Play Store. The home screen design has been tweaked a little, as you can now use custom cards for accessing features quickly with a single swipe.
However, you will not be able to run certain apps like Google Maps or Spotify on it because it does not run on Wear OS. You can find a number of daily apps use, such as a calendar, stopwatch, alarm and others. You can also enable notifications. There is no eSIM slot, but Bluetooth and NFC support is offered.
Fitness and Tracking
Similar to other Huawei watches, this one has more than 100 different workout modes. There are standard options like running, walking, swimming and cycling and obscure options like fencing, plaza dancing and Pilates. A comprehensive breakdown of the workouts is provided, including calories burnt, heart rate zone.
Running courses can also be found on the device with different lengths and paces. Sleep tracking is also effective and symptoms of sleep apnea can also be detected.
The Verdict
The Huawei Watch GT 4 boasts one of the best designs that can be found on any wearable in the market. It is durable, light and offers an excellent battery life that makes it a good buy.
