Sonic Superstars is a game that evokes feelings of nostalgia by taking you back to the Genesis-era 2D platforming, which is the reason why the game is on the map in the first place.
It further helps that the game has now taken a leap forward and allows three more friends to join the adventures of the game. From the modernized visual aesthetic to the brand-new, brilliantly executed elements, Sonic Superstars is a well-rounded and fun game for all.
The plot
Same as the earlier Sonic platforms, this game is light when it comes to the story. However, it brings back Dr. Eggman, as well as a popular fan-favorite, Fang The Hunter. You can also introduce yourself to a new character by the name of Trip.
Trip’s role, while initially insignificant, will slowly grow on you. As the game progresses, she becomes a crucial asset in helping you get through difficult levels and make your way past a number of obstacles.
Due to Trip’s abilities, she is likely to be a permanent part of the Sonic universe.
The landscape
The platforming in Sonic Superstars is unmatched, with physics aiding in perfectly replicating the feel of the Genesis adventures that Sonic kicks off. All of Sonic’s pals have previously nostalgic specialties, such as the ability of Tails to fly and Amy’s enemy-slaying double jump.

Interesting Additions
One of the most important additions in Sonic Superstars is the ability of Chaos Emeralds to grant new powers. As soon as you collect them, you will have access to the weapon wheel, too. Meanwhile, Vision and Avatar will allow you to attack clones showing up on the screen, revealing hidden platforms and rings.
Another interesting addition is the Bullet, which you can fire in any chosen direction, and it will give you an explosive boost. Moreover, you have to work to find the hidden Chaos Emerald portals, which is an interesting task in itself.
The Verdict
Sonic Superstars will take you back to your childhood days, for it retains the classic features that the brand is known for. However, it also comes with a successful evolution of small tweaks that will keep you hooked on the game for hours.
