This year there were three members of Samsung’s ‘22 flagship phones. Galaxy S22, S22 Plus & S22 Ultra. In all of these, Samsung Galaxy S22 is the best option, it feels like the right size which makes it fit comfortably in hand & it has a low price as well.
On the other hand, there is the Samsung S22 Ultra. With premium design, plentiful rear cameras, and S-Pen stylus, S22 Ultra looks like a powerful and complete handset that came out this year. The third and underwhelming phone is Galaxy S22 Plus, it feels easily forgettable.
If we talk about Galaxy S22 Plus, it’s hard to be excited about when we have two flagship phones like Galaxy S22 & Galaxy S22 Ultra. S22 Plus is like the neglected middle child of Samsung’s flagship family this year. With the same specs and similar design, S22 Plus just gives a bigger battery and screen. But, when it comes to price they have a significant difference. The Galaxy S22 Plus is expensive if we compare it to the Galaxy S22.
The Galaxy S22 Plus is not just about negative points, it has some good points in its favor as well. This phone is great for taking photos, especially portrait shots. You will love it’s portrait mode, it is remarkable at the artificial background blur, and a good filter you can use. The camera is the best selling point for this phone. The feature which is highlighted by the company is Single Take (it picks the best picture from a burst, just in a single click.)
This is a powerful handset in many other areas. It has a top-end chipset, good battery life, and a tremendous camera.
But still it is not even close to a perfect phone, not a comfortable handset to hold because of its flat edge, the software has a bit sluggish feeling. OpenUI makes it slower than other flagship Android phones out there. The S22 Plus has average built quality, charging speed, and display quality too.
Plus, this phone is too expensive. It shouldn’t be expensive or it should be average in anything. Overall the user experience of this phone cannot compete with other flagship phones.
Design
It’s something different in the Samsung Galaxy S22 Plus’s design, you will both hate and love it at the same time.
The things you will love are- the looks of the phone and the range of colors it comes in. You can choose pink, green, black, blue, pale, gray, violet and cream. The camera bump makes it chic and distinct. It adds up to the looks of this phone.
The thing you won’t like is how it feels in hand, when you pick it up it doesn’t feel comfortable or premium at all. This is mainly because of its flat edge sides and big size. It’s not as sharp as iPhone 13’s full-flat edges but due to its slight curve, it digs into your palm when you are using this phone.
Display
Galaxy S series was considered industry-leading for its fantastic display.
The Galaxy Ultra S22 is keeping the legacy, but S22 Plus doesn’t deserve this title at all.
It doesn’t mean the display is bad or cheap-looking, but it’s not according to the Galaxy S flagship line.
The screen size is 6.6 inches – which is 0.1 smaller than the Galaxy S21+. There is a small punch-hole cut for the front camera. It has a pretty small bezel around the display.
Yes, the screen resolution is average but this still has some good things in its display.
It’s an AMOLED display which gives in an impressive contract and max brightness is at 1,750 nits which is very high.
Camera
It has 50MP f/1.8 main, 12MP f/2.2 ultrawide & 10MP f/2.4 telephoto for 3X optical zoom rear camera. & a 10MP f/2.2 front camera. This Phone has the same four cameras as the Galaxy S22.
The rear camera trio works together very well. That jumping between standard photos, ultra-wide shot & zoom in the camera is impeccable. The picture quality is impressive as well. It doesn’t change the color profile at all. There is a touch distortion in ultra-wide pictures, but it’s not that much. I had to put an extra effort to find it.
With just 10MP, the front camera is a bit underwhelming. Still, it clicks great selfies with clear features and vibrant colors. The portrait mode of this camera app is great at balancing the exposure. There is no chance your selfie is going to be ruined by a bright background.
Performance
The Galaxy S22 Plus performance has two different identities. Some people think it’s really good and some think it’s not up to the mark. The reason is, It has Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Generation 1 chipset and for Europe, it uses Exynos 2200 by Samsung.
They are somewhat similar in terms of performance. But, Qualcomm’s processors are a bit better than Exynos.
