When it comes to premium Android tablets, Samsung has done a good job of covering the space and there are also some good cheap options. But, what if people want something in between? This is where the Xiaomi Pad 6 comes in because it is certainly not the cheapest device around, but it is capable of offering value for money.
Design and build
If Xiaomi wanted to make the Pad 6 the iPad’s Android equivalent, it has certainly done a good job of it in terms of design. You could mistake the Pad 6 for an iPad from the front, as it has a consistent and slim bezel around the display and rounded corners. The build quality is also quite impressive, as the aluminum frame and back give an air of durability, while the screen is well-protected with Gorilla Glass 3.
The camera module is the only fragile area, as it protrudes from the device, so it will wobble when you put it face up on a table. The Pad 6 is about 6.5mm thick and is relatively lightweight, as it weighs just 490g. You can easily hold it in one hand for extended use, but using a cover will add to the weight. The rear design is also very attractive, especially in the ‘Mist blue’ color. The other options include ‘Gravity Gray’ and ‘Gold’.
There is no fingerprint sensor, which is quite disappointing. You can use the old-fashioned PIN, or face unlock for unlocking your device.
Screen and speakers
The most impressive aspect of the Pad 6 is the display. Even though the screen is LCD, the 11-inch display delivers really well, thanks to the resolution of 2880×1800. All images and text look crisp and clear and you can enjoy vibrant and rich colors, which makes it great for watching videos and browsing social media. However, it is the 144Hz refresh rate that really adds the bang because it makes it one of the most responsive tablets to exist, as it moves been menus and screens with fluidity.
The brightness is also impressive and you can also use it outside with the ‘Sunlight mode’. There are quad stereo speakers, as one can be found in every corner, and they are also solid. They are great for music and even voice-based content is very clear. But, there is no 3.5mm headphone jack if you want a wired connection.
Specs and performance
Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 870 chipset is used to power the Pad 6. It delivers a very strong performance and is paired with 6GB of RAM to do so. This makes it capable of doing everyday tasks quite easily. The device remains responsive and smooth no matter what you throw at it. The device is good for productivity and entertainment alike. In fact, it also deals with mobile gaming quite well. The gameplay remains smooth even in the most intense games. The internal storage is 128GB, which is disappointing because there is no microSD card support available.
The Verdict
If you are looking for an affordable Android tablet that can deliver a high-standard performance, then the Xiaomi Pad 6 is a great choice.
