Sound quality has always been a top priority for Corsair when it comes to its Virtuoso line of gaming headsets, but they seem to have kicked things up a notch with the Virtuoso Pro. The latest symphonic headset comes with improved 50mm graphene drivers that boast open-back ear cups and enhanced comfort for a fun listening experience.
Design and features
The Corsair Virtuoso Pro is available in a zipped, large carrying case that has a protective hardback shell. A molded foam tray inside holds the headphones safely. The top half of the case has a mesh pocket for tucking in the cables and Velcro is used to close it. Form and function have been blended, but the goal is to balance the robust build quality with light weight that remains comfortable. The open-back cups look magnificent due to their intricate design.
To put it simply, the headset looks downright stellar and could easily come across as a high-end pair of headphones. It does not give any sign of being a gaming headset. They come with a new driver system that has led to the sound improvement. 50mm drivers have been used in the Corsair Virtuoso Pro that are 25% larger than those found in most gaming headsets. This makes them capable of moving more air and improves their response.
The improvement
Previous Virtuoso models also had 50mm drivers, but the Pro utilizes graphene diaphragms. Graphene is rigid, yet lightweight, which allows it to stop and start quickly, thereby delivering improved resolution and detail. The same qualities can be used for extending further into the treble and bass, ensuring that the listening experience has more texture and detail. The improvement is noticeable almost immediately and the headset sounds a lot clearer than before.
The open-back design delivers the other half of the sound improvement because it creates a spacious listening experience. The sound can escape out the back through the wide-open grilles and the soundstage is a lot more natural and wider than most closed-back gaming headsets.
The experience
The headphones are extremely comfortable and well-built. They grills, yokes and headband have been reinforced with metal. The earcups are made of plastic and this keeps them lightweight at around 338 grams. The headband and cushions are cloth-lined and soft for breathability. They have a fairly strong grip. You can replace the cushions, headband and even the grilles.
As far as the microphone is concerned, it is noise canceling and unidirectional. It sound quite good, but it needs more power. In terms of performance, the Virtuoso Pro is undoubtedly one of the best sounding gaming headsets that you will find. They are capable of delivering an airy yet rich listening experience. You can enjoy the wide and full bass with clear and defined punchiness. The spacious highs and open-back cups also manage to enhance the soundstage.
The Verdict
At $199, they might seem a tad expensive for wired headphones, but the Virtuoso Pro are undoubtedly one of the best gaming headsets you will find in terms of sound quality.
