Xiaomi makes smartwatches for people who want to buy a wearable without spending lots of money on it and still get a good-looking device that offers them a smooth experience. The Watch 4 has improved its design and has gotten smarter than its predecessor.
Design and Build
The Redmi Watch 4 is available in two colors; silver grey and obsidian black. With the case made from aluminum rather than plastic. There is a matching TPU strap, but you have other strap options that you can also explore to give your watch a lift. Since it measures 4.75mm, it is a bit big on the wrist, but it weighs only 30g, which means it is not too heavy. As for thickness, it is about 10.5mm, which does not make it the slimmest watch, but not the chunkiest either.
In general, the watch has a very streamlined look, as it boasts a single, rotating watch crown-style button. It can be pressed to wake up the screen, open apps and go back to the main screen.
Screen and Audio
There is a 1.97-inch AMOLED touchscreen that comes with a refresh rate of 60Hz and it is a step up from the Redmi Watch 3. The screen is undoubtedly bright and there is no big bezel to worry about. The watch has dedicated display settings that allow you to adjust the brightness and the raise-to-wake gesture support.
You can also use the Redmi Watch 4 to make calls, as long as you have your phone close and it is paired with the watch via Bluetooth. The keypad is also of good size and the call quality is clear and loud enough to make it useful.
Software and Features
Similar to its predecessor, the Watch 4 runs on Hyper OS, which is compatible with both iOS and Android. Its goal is to offer a consistent experience and the software does function smoothly for the most part. It has big and nice widgets. Redmi has not disclosed the RAM or processor information, but it functions quite well.
The Mi Fitness companion smartphone app provides you with health and fitness stats. You can also use third-party apps, such as Apple Health and Strava. You can also check your phone notifications on the watch and control music playing on your phone. Find my phone mode can also be used to locate your phone. You can check weather and calendar updates and even create a to-do list.
You will not find features like a music player and contactless payments on this watch, which is not surprising, given its price tag. An emergency SOS mode feature has been added that can send an alert to your emergency contacts.
The Watch 4 also has about 150 sports modes and is capable of tracking your blood oxygen levels and heart rate. It also comes with built-in GPS that can be helpful for runners.
The Verdict
The Redmi Watch 4 is a budget device, but does not feel like it and is taking Redmi’s smartwatches in the right direction in terms of both hardware and software.
