AOC has decided to enter the world of truly ultrawide monitors with the CU34G2XP/BK. This 34-inch gaming monitor comes with all the features it needs to fit in this category.
Design
The red and black frame of the CU34G2XP/BK is similar to AOC’s other recent options and it still looks excellent. It has the same two-tone styling that gives it a more classic look than an all-black look. It still manages to retain thin bezels around the big display for a modern touch. Assembling the panel is also very straightforward, as you need to screw the stand in from the bottom.
The stand of the CU34G2XP/BK is also very adjustable, as it gives you plenty of room for adjusting height, tilting and swivel. The monitor is on the hefty side, as it weighs about 6.51kg. The port selection is also great, as you will find a pair of DP 1.4 and HDMI 2.0 inputs. This means you have four display options to choose from. There is also an extensive USB hub that has a USB-B option and four USB 3.2 Type-A Gen 1 ports. You can also connect external speakers to the monitor with the headphone jack provided.
Image Quality
The 34-inch panel of the CU34G2XP/BK has a resolution of 3440×1440 and is capable of offering decent visuals and detail. The screen is slightly curved and this gives some great immersion in games. The 180Hz refresh rate also makes the games seem more responsive, as the monitor handles motion very well. The brightness and contrast ratio do not give you any cause for complaint. The color accuracy is also very reasonable.
Software and Features
There is no dedicated joystick to navigate the on-screen display of the CU34G2XP/BK, but there are buttons on the right-hand edge of the monitor that you can use for this purpose. It does make things a little complicated and you will end up pressing the wrong button every now and then, at least until you get used to it. The monitor does give you the option of adjusting HDR
The display itself gives you a solid number of options, such as choosing modes like those for Racing and FPS. Likewise, there is also the option of adjusting the brightness and contrast. The monitor itself does not have any speakers, but you can connect external speakers, as mentioned earlier. This is not surprising, given that the monitor has been designed to be an affordable device.
The Verdict
If you are looking for an affordable ultrawide gaming monitor, you will find the AOC Gaming CU34G2XP/BK to be a great option. One of the best things about this particular monitor is that it gives you value for money. You will not find many panels in this size that are capable of offering such a good experience and all for a very low price.
